Biography
I started my building career at the age of 6, when my oldest friend and I constructed gadgets of this and that. Large and small I create to fascinate and satisfy my need for creativity and the urge to push my knowledge of the mysteries of how things are put together. I guess I am a combination of furniture designer/builder/artist.
I grew up in a town north of Chicago by the name of Lake Forest, Illinois. I then attended Salisbury School, a high school in Northwestern Connecticut. At the time, students were able to build cabins to stay in during the weekends. I decided to head to the woods to build a cabin during my spare time. It is then that I discovered my keen interested in the art of building.
After high school I received an Associates Degree in Forestry from the University of New Hampshire/Thompson School of Forestry. I then received a Bachelors Degree in Mine land Reclemation from Montana State University. During my summers throughout my college career I worked as a carpenter for my Uncle and various friends that where in the building industry and also built another cabin for myself. It is from this point that I began my technical knowledge of building. Upon graduating from college I began a short career in Trout Habitat enhancement in Bozeman, Montana but quickly realized that my calling was building. While I enjoyed carpentry and building I knew that Furniture or Boat building was the direction I wanted to go in. I knew I needed help in gaining knowledge and went to an intensive furniture & design program offered at Penland School of Crafts in Penland, NC. Upon completion at Penland I opened a studio/shop for a brief period of time in Bozeman, Montana before moving my life and business to North Ferrisburgh, Vermont. It is here that my wife, Katie and I live and work amongst the Green Mountains with our trusty companion and mascot Stobie.
Many of my pieces are a marriage between my own designs and that of traditional styles as well. I invite you to call or stop by the website if you have any questions about my designs or any project ideas you might have.
